In August of 2004, Invenergy completed the acquisition of the Nelson Energy Center located in Lee County, Illinois. The Nelson facility is a 580 MW power generation project consisting of two independent combined cycle units designed around the efficient and proven General Electric 7FA gas turbine technology. Construction of the Nelson facility was initiated in 2000 by NRG Energy, an independent power producer that filed for bankruptcy before completing the plant. In 2004, Invenergy acquired the partially constructed Nelson facility from NRG Energy in a court-supervised bankruptcy sale.
